Energy Rating Training

NatHERS, House Energy Rating Software:

Training in energy rating with the rating tool NatHERS is offered in three forms, on-line direct contact, a 2-day face to face course and a self-help package (included with the current upgrade 2.32a).

Professor John Ballinger currently offers a 2-day face-to-face course in the use and application of the NatHERS House Energy Rating Software, from CSIRO.

A new on-line training service is being developed, designed to enable students to partake in training from the comfort of their office or home, via the Internet. Both course follow the curriculum out-lined below.

Please take the time to register with the HelpDesk to find out more about these courses and their availability.

The curriculum of both courses include:
an introduction a background to the Australian house energy rating scheme

  • an explanation of the software program structure and operation
  • a detailed explanation of the data entry process and house plan evaluation
  • a guided hands-on opportunity to enter at least three example dwellings
  • run a simulation and analyse the resulting output with group discussions (single storey detached cottage, two storey house, multi-unit houses)
  • an update on the current status in each state

The objective of this course is to gain an understanding of the operation and application of the NatHERS software.

Participants should not expect to be fully conversant in the software's operation in a single course; some on-going study and exploration in simulating a few different house designs will be necessary in their own time. Self-learning work sheets (included in this work book) and the Software Users Manual will assist in this process.

Course Competencies:

On completion of the course participants will have:

  • examined the plans of at least 6 different houses and discussed the options for zoning the different areas
  • completed the data entry of at least three house designs
  • undertaken a minimum of ten simulation exercises
  • explored the implications of the design changes simulated
  • and participated in group discussions about the results

Those interested in participating in this training must register with the HelpDesk to arrange a booking.
